This page contains the answers to some frequently asked questions about this site.
Pages on this site are referenced using a simple URL scheme. Each page has a code. Accessing http://www.aberford.info/CODE returns the page for that code. Codes can contain letters, numbers, underscores, spaces, and limited punctuation.
Pages on this site are browsed by category. Accessing http://www.aberford.info/CATEGORY/ (note the trailing slash) returns a list of pages which are in that category. Category names should generally be one word.
Use the Search link in the upper right corner of the site to access the main search page. Each category browsing page also allows for filtering within the results.
The Create page is a shortcut. Accessing a page which does not already exist will display a page offering to create the page. Any registered user is free to make as many pages as they wish.
The tools in the upper left of the site allow any registered users to edit pages and to see the history for a page. See the parts descriptions above for details about
Each page can be created with the following parts.
Comment - A comment can be added when creating or editing a page. The comment will be shown in the history for the page.
Title - The title of the page is shown at the top of the page, in page listings, and in the title of the browser.
Summary - The summary is optional. It provides a short description of the page in page listings.
Body - The body of the page is shown when the page is viewed. The body must be formatted using the Wiki formatting which is shown at right.
Tags - The tags allow the page to be added to one or more free-form categories. The tags section displays some built-in tags for operating systems, data sources, and Lasso tag categories, popular tags, and has a free-form section for creating new tags.
This site requires that all contributors register and verify their email address. This is necessary so that authors can be contacted about their contributions. Registration is easy and the email addresses which are collected will not be used for any purpose other than infrequent notices about major changes to the Web site.
Posting an article to this site grants Brian Hull an unrestricted right to publish the article on this site and to allow modifications to the article by the members of the site. You maintain the copyright on any content you post to this Web site. See the Legal page for details.
